Countertenor, Cristian Zaragoza is equally at home in art song and musical theater as he is on the operatic stage. Zaragoza’s Countertenor Roles include Penélope in Plastic Flowers with International Brazilian Opera, Bubikopf in Der Kaiser von Atlantis, and scenes from Lucio Silla and Il Re Pastore with Montclair State University Opera. Zaragoza has performed baritone roles in scenes from Don Giovanni, La Boheme, West Side Story, and Candide. His theatrical roles have included Pirate King in Pirates of Penzance and Sir Dinidan from Camelot with Eastern New Mexico University Opera. The award-winning Countertenor has received the Eastern New Mexico University Department of Music Chair’s award; the Jan Web Smartnick Music Endowment award; The Vocal Artistry Art Song Competition’s Bower Music Award. A native of Muleshoe, Texas, Zaragoza received his Master of Music in Vocal Performance at Montclair State University and A Bachelor of Music in vocal performance at Eastern New Mexico University. Cristian Zaragoza is also program director and event coordinator at the Nutley School of Music.
